Strawberries – Growing My Own

I remember writing a post about strawberries about this time last year.  It was wet and miserable then too.  I remember being rather fed up with the quality of strawberries around.  All rock hard and tasteless.  So this year I decided I’d grow my own inspired by James Wong’s book called Homegrown Revolution.

The variety I am growing is called “Alpine Snow”, It’s a small variety which apparently has a pineapple like flavour.  I’m intrigued to see what my little seedlings will turn into.  Only a little sprouting up so far as we only planted them in May rather than April like James recommends.  I’ll keep you posted on progress!

So while the little seedlings do their thing, I’ll have to settle for red ones and there’s nothing better to pop them on than some shortbread - Hazelnut Shortbread topped with Chocolate and Strawberries.

Are you growing your own strawberries? Why did you decide to? What will you make with them or are they best just eaten on their own?
